Caffeine and Correspondence with Jessica Lindgren

June 6, 2017 by Paul Prins Leave a Comment

Jessica Lindgren – Founder of Caffeine and Correspondence

Caffeine and Correspondence is a great monthly event in Minneapolis. It helps people connect over the written word. In our conversation Jessica shares about where this event came from, and the impact that writing a quick note can have. It is a great reminder of how easy it can be to care and value others. Caring well for those who support and serve alongside us in our nonprofits is important.

Send a birthday card!
Write to your elected officials!
Tell someone they’re awesome!

There is always someone that deserves a handwritten note.

If you are interested in starting up their own group, or have any questions in general reach out to Jessica – http://galfriday612.com/contact

Restarting with a New Approach

January 4, 2017 by Paul Prins Leave a Comment

It has been a rough start to this Nonprofit Coffee Break experiment. When starting this I was excited to talk about what was happening right now. As things progressed I found myself covering more basic concepts to build off of later. This created dense episodes, and while I liked them, they we not where I wanted this to go. So I took a break.

Part of that break was the result of a cup of coffee spilled on my laptop. Somehow it survived but was maimed. While still able to do light tasks without much notice it made anything more unbearable. It downloaded content slowly, and editing audio & video was impossible. The timing was rough too, as the spill happened the week after the new Macbook Pro was released. This put my new laptop arriving five weeks out. Time spent working on Fresh Vine, and reflecting on where to take the Nonprofit Coffee Break.

Going forward with 2 types of content

Weekly Episodes
This is the main thing we’re doing here. Each week we’ll have a new episode talking about something current. Covering great campaigns, interviews, breaking down new products, tech, or services, and current news. Hit us up on twitter with tips (@nonprofitbreak) or leave comments on our videos on You Tube (can message too).

Basics
These are more general concept videos. These are going to be more dense. Like our initial episodes, but without a concern for brevity. The goal instead is to communicate the concept completely. There is not going to be a specific scheduled for these.

With that said, look for new weekly episodes to start up next week! Happy 2017!

An Unexpected Break – Back in 2017

December 5, 2016 by Paul Prins Leave a Comment

A few weeks ago I accidently gave some coffee to my laptop… this is not the type of break I’m encouraging you to take. As a result the computer is barely functional. While a new one has been ordered it is not expected to arrive until the end of this year. We’ll be back strong in 2017.

Until we meet again, keep your coffee off your keyboards. Have a blessed holiday season. May your year end fundraising go well!

July 6, 2016 by Paul Prins Leave a Comment

Nearly every nonprofit has does some type of mass emailing. We need to inform our network of members, volunteers, donors, staff, friends, and family of what is happening. Yet it can be frustrating when our messages aren’t received, read, or acted on.

During this break we’re talking through a few ways that you can improve your emails. Over time you’ll have better open rates and more action. The goal is not simply to boost numbers, but to get your community into action. It is easier than you think! [Read more…]

Brand, Business & Buzz – A Guide for Social Entrepreneurs

June 22, 2016 by Paul Prins Leave a Comment

Brand, Business & Buzz book cover

I just finished reading through Brand, Business & Buzz. You would do well to get yourself this e-book. It is written by two friends of mine: Tim Schuster and Adam Rao. They put together a very approachable guide to the three keys to starting any new venture. While they target Social Entrepreneurs the lessons and insights can translate directly to nonprofit work. After all, being a nonprofit doesn’t exclude you from being an entrepreneur.

Even better for you it is free. Its genesis is from the Friendraisers that Tim has been hosting for several years through his nonprofit Midtown Community in Minneapolis. These events bring in local startups (both businesses and nonprofits) to brainstorm, discuss, and inspire. If you are in the Minneapolis/Saint Paul area you should check one out. You can learn more about them on their site – ThisIsMidtown.org.
